April Showers…

HA!  Fooled you!  The flowers are already blooming, especially our lovely daffodils. Spring Break was fun–on Monday we made some wonderful wallets:

On Wednesday we broke the evil Nelyn the Alniribar’s spell by decoding his cryptic riddles:

And on Friday, we planted seeds for more flowers (and some veggies) that will soon be living outside the library:

Thanks to everyone who joined in!

Let’s make sure we all come to see the flowers at the Ice Cream Social on June 17th!

Spring is Springing!

The weather’s getting nicer!  We’ve got all the latest DVD releases and bestselling books for your rainy March/April days.  There are a few events coming up, too!

Wednesday, April 5th at 4:30 pm will be Toy Lab, where we’re going to make some toys that will “quack” you up.

During Menands school’s spring recess, there will be some events for kids and families during the day, too.

Friday, April 14th we will be holding our Easter Egg Hunt right when the library opens at noon!

Monday, April 17th we’re going to make Duct-Tape Wallets at 1:30 pm.

Wednesday, April 19th at 2:00 pm we’ll be doing a mystery escape-box event.  Figure out the clues to get to the treasure!

Friday, April 21st at 1:30 pm we’re going to plant some seeds with resident green thumb and library board member Judith Gladstone!

Come check us out!

Winter Break: the Sequel is coming up in a few weeks, and we’re going to be having a few activities just in case you’re bored on your week off of school.  On Wednesday, February 22 at 1:30 in the afternoon, one of our teen volunteers will be leading a lesson on making duct tape wallets!  Join us!

On Friday, February 24, we’re going to have a special guest give a science demonstration called “Density with Buttons of Bubbles”!  We’re going to make bubbles sink and buttons float.

Meanwhile, stop on in and check out our awesome DVD collection or maybe a book.  We’re getting new stuff all the time.

Winter (break) is coming!

We hope you had a great Thanksgiving and that you haven’t been trampled by a mob of Christmas shoppers.  As the weather gets colder, we’ll be keeping the library toasty (as long as the boiler holds out) and we have some fun programming lined up for the holiday school break:

Tuesday, December 27th at 5:30 pm, we’re going to be holding a mystery box escape for families!  This is a fun event where you can test your detective skills by locating clues around the library and deciphering a series of locks to access the treasure hidden in a locked box.  There’s going to be an introduction you won’t want to miss, so if you’re going to participate, make sure you’re here on time!  It should last about an hour.

On Thursday, December 29th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Menands library will be hosting a “Take it Apart” night.  Got a toy or old electronic device you want to take apart and see what’s inside?  Maybe even try to fix it?  We’ll provide the tools and the know-how (and a few of our junk drawer phones and hard drives) you provide the curiosity!  Meanwhile, we’ll accept donations of old technology to be taken apart that night.  We’ll recycle the bits when you’re done.

On Friday, December 30th from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, we’ll be having Guitar Hero Karaoke!  Come on in and sing, drum, and strum your brains out on the Wii edition of Guitar hero world tour.
So if you get cold and bored during your week off of school, drop on in!
